Dress challenge, day 10

Standard

So…have you ever purchased a dress and then thought 'why did I buy that?'

That's how I felt about this number from Target … until I wore it.

It's like a little slice of heaven. Soft. Comfortable.

Best of all : clearance-priced at $9.

I paired it with a silver necklace that came with a shirt (purchased on clearance) and a cardigan from Maurice's. Cardigan was marked down to $24.

Shoes are from Gordmans, $9.

Multiple compliments today. 😀

Plaid and lace

Standard

I would definitely wear this outfit to work. Saturday, though, I wore it to my stepdaughter’s bridal shower.

The mauve lace shirt is sleeveless and has a bit of empire waist feel to it, which I didn’t expect…but I like. Found this gem on the clearance rack at Maurice’s for $9.99. I’ll take it. Paired with a black cami underneath. Gordmans for $6.99.

The plaid shirt runs small through the chest area. My only complaint. It matches the lace shirt. Originally sold for $38.99 at Maurice’s and was in sale for $30. The day I bought it, the store had a sale offering 25 percent off. Final price: $22.50.

The only item I paid full price for is the jeans, which I picked up at Cato for $27.99.

I’m pretty happy with the total package and how it looks. Blushing.

Soft on suede

Standard

Election Day. I should’ve been decked out in red, white and blue.

Nope. Guess again.

When I think of suede, I think circa 1978. Not sure why, but it’s my first thought.

Cato had these cute brown suede skirts on clearance. I couldn’t resist. 12.99 was a bargain.

I paired it with an olive camisole from gordmans. Full price-6.99.

Wore a black long sleeve shirt over that. Target. 4.99

Black tights are from Cato. 2.99 clearance. Leopard ballet flats were available at Shopko for 12.99 clearance.

The jean jacket is 11 years old. Bought it when I taught journalism. Cato. Clearance. 15.99.

Found a similar look on Pinterest. Loved the compliments on election night.

Win!

Sheer beauty

Standard

I’m not sure why I purchased this shirt. It’s white. Not bright white but not cream, either. See, whenever I wear white, I become a magnet for spills and stains.

But this blouse was different. A sleeveless sheer camisole, it features black trim down the middle and fringe trim. It’s different and versatile. Price: $6.75 at Maurice’s in the 75 percent rack. How can you turn down that kind of bargain?

It’s also sheer, so I paired a red cami under it. Gordman’s, $6.99.

The bolero styles sweater didn’t add enough contrast or pop, but it was chilly and I had early morning interviews. Cato, $13.99 on clearance.

The Amethyst skinny jeans are comfy and cool. Price, $14.99 on clearance at Gordman’s.

Friday not so casual

Standard

It’s Friday.
It’s homecoming week for one of the schools I cover.

I needed something comfy to wear.

So…these deep coral leggings, paired with a printed cami did the trick today.

The leggings were originally $34.98 at Maurice’s but I snagged them for $8.24. Bargain!

The print cami originally sold for $26.98 but Maurice’s has a 75 percent off rack of shirts so the final price tag was $6. I paired it with an emerald blue cami for accent that comes from Cato. Price: $6.99.

The Best buy was the sleeveless cardigan. It’s from Maurice’s but I. Found this new, with tags, at the local Goodwill store for $3.

For Grandma

Standard

I didn’t work Thursday because my husband’s grandma died and we honored her life that day. She was 101 and had the best sense of humor.

Sure, I have a closet full of dresses. Sure, I could have picked any of them to wear, but…I wanted something dressy and snazzy because she always told me I was “a snazzy dresser.”

I broke my rule for the month: no new clothes.

I spent a lot of $$ on this number, but it’s classy and beautiful. The charcoal gray lace dress has a button neckline and amazing detail. From Maurices for $59.99.

Stunning AND snazzy.
